I feel the wind
Moving across my skin
My legs are moving
As fast as sin
And I have found
That I can skate so fast when
The DJ puts on that song from
The mortal kombat video game
My mom won't let me
Play that game
But at the rink
Her rules have no place
My whole being reacts
When I hear that song begin
And I am bound by nothing
When the DJ Makes my wheels spin

We have floating cars
You pick me up, I fall asleep
When I wake up we’re at the sea
You look just like me
Your ma, she is God
I know I used to be afraid
In ways we called being a man
I want you to know
I like what you do
You tenderly look in the eyes
Of men and women both alike

Infinite possibility (all that can be)
Laid out here in front of me
In everybody’s head you see (what do you see?)
Is an alternate reality
I know that you feel
Like the engine’s out of fuel
The engine is fine--
All we need to fix is you.
The place in your mind
Where you go to feel okay
Is going away.
The grains of sand in hourglass (see how they go)
The timelines that have come to pass
They seem like just a memory (what could they be?)
Your alternate realities
I know that you feel
Like the engine’s out of fuel
The engine is fine--
All we need to fix is you.
The place in your mind
Where you go to feel okay
Is going away.

Big George is leaving San Francisco
Four hours south to San Luis Obispo
Thermos full of coffee and a lotta talk radio
Little George stuck at the county jail
Mad cause dad wouldn’t pay his bail
If you love em then you let em go
Needed some things for life on his own
A camping tent and a Coleman stove
Carefully laid in the back of his vacuumed car
Can’t deny his son a roof or a meal
Search on craigslist got a pretty good deal
And the hunt for a bargain was certainly the easiest part
And the hardest oh I can’t even start
And what could have been would break
Your heart
Big George likes his Doris day
Took him 40 years to tell his wife he was gay
Might be the weirdest guy I know
Little George has lost his mind again
Marijuana meth and heroin
Stayin down by the creek in the tent with his Coleman stove
I remember swimming and climbing trees
Unaware of bipolarities
or being victimized by the chemicals that float around in your brain
I dream about him all the time
How his death will come before mine
And I think my pop is pretty sure of the same
He’s not a loser
He isn’t even playin the game
Don’t call him crazy
He’s absolutely fucking insane
And if God gave without taking anything back
The black sheep wouldn’t be…

I’m awake, aware of my own breath
As she must tear herself away
From the memories, the things she ought to do
And when she shouldn’t follow through
And how to lie, how to lie, how to lie
And I woke up thinking how to win
Cause this time she’s strong enough for him
And if it’s down to sink or swim I will try, I will try, I will try
I could walk through the open door
As she’s got so much left to hide
All the memories, the things she wants to know
And all the ways she’s got to grow
To believe, to believe, to believe
And I woke up ready to begin
Revealing colors I’ve held in
Cause in this universe I’m given the chance to fly
I can fly

Stillness moves in the buildings
Is it me or is it everything
And the door to the lobby
And the lobby out to many things
I don’t don’t, I don’t don’t don’t see
Can’t can’t get
forest out from in the trees
I know know, I don’t know I know know
Taking all of my time to best temporality

Emily Brown - One Letter

In an alternate universe it’s mostly the same
only minor adjustments from frame to frame
and were you dropped in an instant you’d not know the difference
till many years later you noticed your name’s
got a letter where some other letter had been
and you wonder, is it you that’s invaded your skin
well there’s no use in murmuring or wondering what’s been
it’s no difference, not really, don’t sweat it
small reminders may crop up; are they really there
some believe there’s hint in the berenstain bears
well you’ll put it together and later untether
you’ll remember and then you’ll forget it
